Dink Drills 301
Drill 01 · Soft Game · 4 Players
The Four-Corner Return Rotation
All four players hold their position at the strike zone. The ball moves in a continuous rotation — straight across, then diagonal — so every player works both angles.
Drill Sequence
1Player A returns straight across to Player B
2Player B returns diagonally to Player C
3Player C returns straight across to Player D
4Player D returns diagonally back to Player A
Why Run This Drill
Master both angles. Alternating straight and diagonal returns trains the two placements you use most in real rallies — no angle becomes a weakness.
Quicker recovery between shots. The ball arrives from a different direction each time, so you learn to reset your paddle and posture immediately after every return.
Patience under rhythm. The continuous rotation rewards steady, repeatable contact over risky winners — the habit that wins long soft-game exchanges.
Four players, zero standing around. Everyone touches the ball every rotation, so all four players get equal reps in a single feed.
Drill 02 · Attack · 3- 4 Players
Force the Pop-Up, Finish the Point
Steady pressure creates weak balls. This three-step sequence trains your team to force the pop-up — then step in and end the rally.
Drill Sequence
1Player C drives a firm, deep return at Player B — pressure the body or backhand
2Under pressure, Player B pops the ball up short over the net
3Player A steps in and smashes into the open court that B left behind
Why Run This Drill
Purposeful pressure. Targeting the body or backhand teaches you that a well-placed return — not a harder one — is what forces errors.
Faster pop-up recognition. Repetition trains your eyes to read a rising ball early, so you’re already moving forward while opponents are still reacting.
A confident put-away. Stepping in and smashing to the open court builds the finishing instinct many players hesitate on in matches.
Better defense, too. The player under pressure gets equal value: learning to absorb pace and keep the ball low instead of lifting it.
